The Children

Of Children:

The English Civil War Society and Sir Thomas Blackwell's Regiment provides a very safe yet exciting environment for children. In Blackwell's we have a number of children in the regiment, some have been born into the society whilst others have been dragged along by their parents! Those pictured above are (from left to right) Ben, Amy, Lili and Emily.

What the children say:

We asked the kids to tell us what they liked about being in Blackwell’s .....

"Playing with Ben and Amy and watching the battles" Lili Age 6

“I love the thrill and excitement of watching the battles and there’s always a friend for me to talk to.” Emily Age 14

“I like the freedom and camping in a caravan” Amy aged 10

What the parents say:

Not a computer or TV in sight and yet they play and amuse themselves all day with the other children and the natural surroundings at hand, just like when we were kids.

Learning the drill of pike or the drum calls before being legally allowed onto the battlefield gives them a head start and keeps their enthusiasm for the real thing, thus we have ready made pikemen and musicians.     DEB Age 21 & 3/4

My children have grown up within the regiment with the freedom to explore and play in safety because of the surrogate parents and friends who lookout for them. They also have the ability to converse with adults easily and feel part of Blackwell’s.      Jo parent of Amy and Ben

All the children get on really well and I hardly see her during the day!  Zena parent of Lili
